Is VURA only for HIV care?
No. VURA supports STD/STI testing and treatment, HIV testing, PrEP, PEP, sexual wellness education, and medication support.
What is the difference between STD and STI?
People often use STD and STI to mean the same thing. CDC explains that STI means sexually transmitted infection, while STD usually refers to disease that develops from an infection. Many healthcare organizations now use STI more often because infections may exist before symptoms appear.
What is PrEP?
PrEP is medication taken before possible HIV exposure to help prevent HIV. It may be taken as a daily pill or, for eligible patients, as an injection.
What is PEP?
PEP is emergency HIV prevention medication after a possible exposure. It must be started quickly, ideally as soon as possible and within 72 hours.
Can PEP wait until tomorrow?
Do not wait. If you think you may need PEP, call immediately or go to urgent care or an emergency room.
Does PrEP prevent all STDs/STIs?
No. PrEP helps prevent HIV, but it does not prevent chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, HPV, hepatitis, or other STIs. Routine testing is still important.
Do I need symptoms to get tested?
No. Many people get tested even when they feel fine. Testing is a normal part of sexual health.
Is care confidential?
Yes. VURA is designed to provide private and respectful sexual health support.
Do you offer free care?
VURA may offer free or low-cost care options for eligible patients. Contact us to learn what support may be available.
Can I get care online?
Some care or navigation may be available online. Some services may require in-person testing, labs, or a provider visit.
